Zcash's privacy-first design doesn't cross a bridge unchanged, and UZEC shows how that plays out: native ZEC gets locked on the transparent side of the Zcash protocol before Hyper Unit mints a matching balance for Hyperliquid's HyperCore spot books. UZEC has nothing to do with the ZEC perpetual's funding-rate mechanics — it's a fully backed spot token whose price is supposed to track ZEC's own value rather than move with derivatives positioning, giving holders a way to sit in ZEC exposure without a leveraged component. Because Zcash supports shielded transactions but bridging still requires passing through a transparent lock step, UZEC's guardian-network dependency is a distinct security layer from whatever privacy guarantees Zcash itself offers — a bridge failure is a different event entirely from a Zcash protocol issue. Volume on this pair has historically lagged well behind the ZEC perpetual, so thinner depth and wider spreads should be the baseline expectation.
